A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was fatally shot in Lambeth.

He now remains in police custody, but police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and more information about the shooting.

Officers were called by medical staff to St Thomas’ Hospital after the man was dropped off by a “private vehicle” at 2.30am on May 11.

Jazmel Dashourn Patterson-Low, 26, from Lambeth, died about half an hour later.

Detectives believe that Jazmel was shot on the Westbury Estate in St Rule Street.

His family are being supported by specially trained officers.

His death was confirmed by a post-mortem examination on May 12 and it was determined the fatal injury was from a single gunshot wound.

Reports suggest up that to 40 people gathered in the vicinity when a conflict broke out at around 2am.

Anyone with any information or footage is asked to call police on 101 and give reference 884/11May. Alternatively contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Detective Inspector Martin Thorpe, Specialist Crime, leads the investigation and said: “This arrest demonstrates that our investigation is making progress but I am still appealing to any witnesses or anyone with information to get in contact.

“We know there was a group of around 40 people gathered in and around St Rule Street on Friday evening and the early hours of Saturday morning.

“A dispute appears to have flared up rapidly after 2am, resulting in shots being fired.

“Several people have come forward to provide information and I am extremely grateful to them.

“However, I am certain there are other people who will know what happened in St Rule Street and who was responsible for the shooting. I urge them to come forward and share that information.”
